Schulist Interests, Inc was founded in 1986 by Mary Schulist, specializing in merger and acquisition advisory services. Jim Schulist joined the company in 1993 and changed its focus, expanding its offerings to include human resource consulting. Schulist Interests, Inc. specializes in the prevention and management of employee relations issues through the establishment of sound human resource policies, practices and procedures. The company provides employers with a hands-on approach to managing the challenges of an ever-changing workforce. Its diversified client base includes private and public companies in accounting, finance, insurance, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, oil & gas, engineering, utilities, education, information technology, restaurant, grocery, media, travel, manufacturing, hardware, retail and wholesale.

James P. (Jim) Schulist  
Jim Schulist, Principal, is a Human Resource Advisor and generalist with 26 years of extensive business and HR experience with two major Fortune 500 companies-Allstate Insurance Company and McDonald's Corporation. As Human Resource Manager for McDonald's in Houston, Texas, Jim provided expertise in all areas of human resources to approximately 16,000 employees in 260 company-owned and franchise-owned McDonald's restaurants throughout the southern half of Texas.

Jim has investigated approximately 125 discrimination and harassment charges from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He has also investigated numerous claims made against clients from the Department of Labor Wage & Hour Division, Texas Workforce Commission and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Well-versed in a broad array of human resource issues, Jim is an active speaker, frequently lecturing to professional groups and civic organizations, including Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, area Chambers of Commerce, Houston Human Resource Management Association, CEO Roundtable, Houston Executive Roundtable, South Texas College of Law and the Texas Society of CPAs. Jim has conducted extensive training on employee relations issues, management styles and management techniques. He is a Certified Trainer for Kiwanis International and the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist Program (CEBS). He is often called upon to serve as an expert witness in lawsuits regarding employee relations issues.

Mary A. Schulist  

Mary Schulist, Principal, has created a 30-year entrepreneurial business career in both the profit and not-for-profit areas. At the age of 25 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mary started her first company, offering professional appraisals and sales for private estates and commercial liquidations.

In 1986, Mary founded M. Schulist Interests, Inc., a merger and acquisition advising company, focusing on privately held firms. In later years, the Texas Corporation provided services in private placements and privatization opportunities in Eastern Europe. Since 1993, the company has expanded into corporate advisory services in the areas of human resources and business development. Together, Mary and her husband, Jim, have grown the business into a successful professional consulting company.

Mary has been active in both the public and private sectors, serving on Boards of Directors and Advisory Boards for Houston businesses and charitable organizations. As a public speaker, she lectures on a variety of timely subjects, including Houston's economy, international business and investments, information technology and America's at-risk children. She is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Houston and has served two terms on the Board of Directors and The Kiwanis Foundation of Houston.

Thomas M. Anderson, JD, SPHR, is a certified human resource professional, Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and an attorney admitted to the State Bar of Texas.  Previously he has worked in the public and private sector with large international companies.  He is also an American Arbitration Association trained and certified mediator. He has extensive experience in labor relations-negotiating labor contracts, handling grievances and arbitrations; health and safety issues; workers compensation hearings; training; recruiting; compensation; benefits; investigations dealing with a wide variety of legal and administrative issues, including EEO, sexual harassment, ERISA, OSHA and unemployment claims.

Karen Endsley, Human Resource Consultant, holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and English and a master’s degree in Human Resource Management.  She has 15 years combined experience in training, public relations, marketing communications and human resources, having led successful initiatives in higher education, private industry and Fortune 5 companies.

J.P. (Pete) Kirk, SPHR, Senior Human Resources Consultant, has over forty years of varied management, human resources, industrial engineering and systems experience in the energy industry.  Pete has directed and managed human resources, compensation, organizational development and training and worked in the area of fair employment practices.  Past employers include Kinder Morgan, Coral Energy (a subsidiary of Shell Oil) and Enron.  He has developed and presented managerial and supervisory training sessions.  Pete has Bachelors in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration.  He is certified as Senior Professional Human Resources and is a Past President of HR Houston and a member of SHRM.  He also actively volunteers at “I Have a Dream” and at the John S. Dunn Center serving the street community.

Matt Lum, Intern, is currently pursuing a degree in Economics at the University Of Texas in Austin.  Matt has participated in a variety of internships in several different industries and companies including Morgan Stanley, Northwestern Mutual and Aramco Services with a focus and developing interest in marketing and technology.  He is a member of the University Investors Association and the Texas Economic Association at the University of Texas. 

Douglas K. Monroe, Senior Human Resources Consultant and Executive, with over 30 years of experience in human resources management at JPMorgan Chase, Chase Bank of Texas, Crocker Bank, and the American Bankers Association. Doug has an extensive background in employee relations, compensation, training and development, talent management, and diversity. He has worked directly with CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, and other executives in a variety of businesses. He was a key participant in several mergers, reorganizations, and restructurings. As a consultant, Doug specializes in working with small and mid-size companies, and helps them implement HR practices that enable them to keep growing. Doug has an B.A. from Middlebury College and a Ph.D. in labor history from Georgetown University.

Pam Sanchez, Operations & Systems Consultant, has over 25 years combined experience in finance, operations, business analysis, project management, program management, systems and cross-functional team facilitation in the technology and banking industries.  Pam has managed deliverables, testing and implementation of worldwide programs in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment through interface with multiple project teams, IT development, marketing and training teams.  She has developed and delivered business requirements, international and domestic training, metrics, customer surveys and program migrations.   Past employers include Hewlett Packard, Compaq and InterFirst Bank.  Pam holds a Bachelors Degree in Accounting.

Wayne D. Smithers, experienced businessman concentrating on consulting with medium sized businesses and establishing Business Advisory Boards to assist owners in management and growth. Wayne is a member of the Silver Fox Advisors and Mentor Student Roundtables at the Bauer School of Business at the University of Houston.  Past experience includes various domestic and international sales and trading assignments with Royal Dutch Shell in New York and London, President of a small Marine Service company, and Sr. VP of Marketing, Supply and Transportation for Valero Refining and Marketing.  Wayne has a B.S in Mathematics from Davidson College and an MBA from The Wharton Graduate School.
